It’s no ordinary cake you’re colouring in – and this is no ordinary place! Those curious shapes on your cake are actually pottery kilns (if you’re not sure what that means, ask your mum, dad or grandparents), just like the real ones at our fantastic heritage visitor site in Devon. That’s because House of Marbles isn’t just an online shop – we’re also a fun-filled destination visited by over 100,000 marble fans every year!
Our site is full of history, wonder and surprises. We’re based on the grounds of an old pottery works, and we’ve kept the original listed kilns as part of our story. You can explore quirky little museums, get mesmerised by enormous marble runs, and discover brilliant toys and games from the past.
There’s also The Emporium – our magical gift shop full of treasures – and The Old Pottery Restaurant, where you can enjoy something tasty to round off your day or refuel as you explore. But one of the most amazing things you can see is our live glassblowing studio.
We heat glass to a whopping 1,140°C – that’s more than 100 times hotter than boiling water! The glass turns molten, like lava from a volcano, and our expert team use it to shape beautiful pieces, from sculptures to vases. It’s so incredible that even kids aged 12+ (with an adult) can have a go, making your own Christmas bauble or a cute glass bird!
