Make Your Own Glass Paperweight

November 12, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Experience hands-on glassmaking at Teign Valley Glass Studio within House of Marbles. Here, you’re not just a spectator – you’re the artist. Inspired by our gallery’s array of finished pieces, you’ll have a wealth of ideas and inspiration to fuel your creation. Whether you’re new to the world of glass or have had a taste of it before, this course is tailored for all. Engage hands-on, steering the molten glass, choosing from a myriad of colours, patterns, swirls and enchanting bubble pockets, to create a paperweight that’s uniquely yours.

In this tailored 30-minute session, designed for solo participation, you’ll embark on a glassmaking journey from basic shaping with clear glass to infusing your piece with vibrant colours and intricate patterns. As your technique refines, you’ll move closer to creating a work of art that rivals the stunning pieces displayed in our course imagery, ensuring that by the session’s end, you’ll leave with a beautiful, handcrafted glass piece to call your own.

Once your glass creation is complete, it will be placed in the annealer to cool gradually over 1-3 days. After it’s ready, you’re welcome to collect it in person or arrange for delivery.*

🥽 Safety Attire Quick Guide:

Closed-Toe Shoes: Protect your feet with sturdy footwear. Sandals or open-toed shoes are a no-go.

Natural Fibre Clothing: Opt for cotton attire, which is less flammable than synthetics, for your safety and comfort.

Protective Clothing: Long pants are a must—think jeans to shield your legs. A fitted, long-sleeved t-shirt is ideal for protecting against heat, though short sleeves are permissible. Steer clear of loose, flowy tops and sleeves that might catch fire or entangle with equipment.

Hair Ties: Long hair should be tied back to avoid interference with your face or the flames.

Minimal Jewellery: Forgo necklaces, bracelets, and rings that could snag or conduct heat.

Safety Glasses: Provided by us, these are essential to shield your eyes from flying glass and bright lights.

Adhering to these guidelines will ensure you dress appropriately for a safe and enjoyable glass crafting experience. Let’s create something beautiful safely!

✅ Booking Tips:

When Is Best? Choose your date and time slot wisely. Make sure it’s a day that you can attend, as once the course is locked in, we’ll be planning for your arrival ahead of schedule.

Multiple Tickets: Add extra tickets for each person participating in the course. Remember, workshops are based on a 1:1 ratio.

Sessions & Tickets: If you are looking to share the experience with another, you have two options:

i) You can buy two tickets at the same time slot (if available). You will work simultaneously on two separate benches with a glass instructor each.

ii) Alternatively, book consecutive sessions; while one participant engages in their workshop, the other can document the experience with photos and videos. Please note only the ticket holder will be actively involved in the hands-on session.

Arrival Time: Aim to arrive a little earlier than your booked slot to ensure a relaxed start to your glass-making experience.

Travel Plans: If travelling from afar, check local transport or plan your driving route. There is plenty of free parking on site.

Questions? Our FAQs have got answers, especially about our refund policy. A heads-up: we cannot process refunds if your session is within the next seven days, as our furnaces are kept hot and ready just for you. Thanks for understanding!
